My great-grandmother, Therese McGinnes Austin, and my great-grandfather, John Ralph Austin, took a cross-country train trip from New York to San Francisco in Spring 1963. They went to spend time with their middle son, Gregory Austin and his family who lived in Palo Alto, California, just south of San Francisco.
On the trip, Grandma kept a diary, in pencil and pen, on 6" x 4" loose leaf paper, the kind you would put in a three ring journal.
Sit back and enjoy the ride. And if there is a name or two you don't know or don't remember then look at the Names of Note link.
